Portia’s Community Service Initiative (CSI), Spreading the Sunshine: Improving Mental Health One Act of Kindness at a Time, focuses on the power of kindness to foster positive mental health. She launched Alabama Gives Back, a statewide day of service that has engaged students across Alabama in projects like park cleanups, assisting the elderly, and disaster relief. The initiative promotes civic engagement, builds community connections, and teaches students the value of giving back. Portia also created the Bayleigh Hill Spreading the Sunshine Scholarship, which has awarded $3,000 to high school seniors making a difference in their communities, as well as the C.S. Heart of Gold Award to honor local leaders.
As a leader at Gulf Shores High School, Portia serves as a GSHS ambassador, on the United Way Youth Board, and as an ambassador for the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership program. She has also held roles as Theater and Drama Club President and Pickleball Club Founder. Her efforts extend to organizing blood drives and leading Vacation Bible School and children’s church activities. Portia’s talent and charisma shine on stage, where she has performed in productions like Thoroughly Modern Millie, Alice in Wonderland, Mean Girls, and The Addams Family. Her talents as a vocalist and dancer have earned her recognition at Miss Alabama’s Teen, where she has placed in the Top 15 twice and was voted Miss Congeniality. This year, as Miss Lake Martin’s Teen, her performance of Ease on Down the Road reflects her commitment to excellence. Portia’s ultimate goal is to make the Top 5 and secure additional college scholarships.
Beyond her titles and awards, Portia is driven by her vision to make a lasting impact. She plans to expand Alabama Gives Back to all schools in the state, emphasizing kindness, mental health, and community engagement. Her initiative encourages students to address local needs while developing skills they can carry into adulthood. Portia’s determination, leadership, and service embody the values of the Miss Alabama’s Teen organization. Her story serves as a testament to the power of kindness and dedication to creating a brighter future. Through her work, Portia is inspiring the next generation to lead with confidence, compassion, and purpose.
